Introducing Lumara Systems: Pioneering Consumer Red Light Therapy

Founded in 2016, Lumara Systems was created to address a major gap in the light therapy market: the need for powerful, portable, and medically effective devices for both professionals and consumers. Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, Lumara Systems was founded by experts in photobiomodulation who saw the limitations of existing light therapy products. Unlike many competitors, Lumara focused on engineering devices that deliver fast, reliable results, with zero electromagnetic fields (EMF) and FDA clearance.

What sets Lumara apart in the crowded light therapy market is its commitment to medical-grade technology and consumer accessibility. Its Illuminate LED panels revolutionized the industry by offering an unmatched 5000 Joules/cm² of energy in just five minutes, far outperforming other devices. Recently, Lumara launched the VISO mask, designed to bring the same professional-grade red light therapy into the homes of consumers. With 470 LEDs compared to the typical 60-100 LEDs in most consumer masks, the VISO provides uniform energy, delivering spa-level results in minutes. Since its launch, it has sold out twice, with healthcare professionals and everyday users praising its power and effectiveness.

Why Consumers Should Know About Lumara:

  1. Innovative, medical-grade technology – Proven to deliver results faster and more effectively than competitors.
  2. Portable and user-friendly – Designed for both professional and at-home use.
  3. Backed by scientific validation – Trusted by experts and recognized by industry leaders like ASCP.

Lumara Systems’ unique approach to technology and innovation has made them a standout brand in the RLT industry. Their professional-grade products are designed not just for clinics but also for home use, making advanced skincare accessible to everyday consumers. Their latest product, the VISO mask, is a revolutionary consumer-grade red light therapy device packed with 470 LEDs—far more than most masks on the market. This leap in technology ensures that users receive uniform energy, mimicking med-spa level treatments at home. Since its launch in July, the VISO mask has sold out twice, a testament to the demand for such a high-performing, consumer-friendly product.

Lumara’s target demographic spans across healthcare professionals, estheticians, and wellness-conscious individuals. The psychographics of Lumara’s audience reflect a desire for cutting-edge wellness solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into daily routines. Johnathan Beauchamp, pr marketing director of Lumara

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Johnathan Beauchamp, pr marketing director of Lumara, the cutting-edge brand behind the innovative red light therapy mask, VISO. Throughout this conversation, we will delve into some exciting topics, such as the science behind Lumara’s red light technology and how it revolutionizes skincare. We will also discuss the product’s unique design, which sets it apart from competitors, and finally, the future of red light therapy in both beauty and wellness. Stay tuned as Bill shares his insights on these game-changing advancements.

Joseph DeAcetis: Lumara Systems was founded to address the limitations of existing light therapy products. Can you explain what technological advancements have been integrated into your devices that differentiate them from others?

Johnathan Beauchamp: All the masks on the market up until now have only around 60 to 100 LEDs. The problem is that the space between the LEDs is not being treated. There is only one treatment where these LEDs touch the skin. There simply aren’t enough LEDs to treat the entire face. That’s why we engineered our masks with 470 LEDs. This ensures every inch of the skin is flooded with red light to ensure uniform light energy across the skin for a genuinely clinical-grade treatment.

Joseph DeAcetis: Many companies claim to have the best light therapy products, but what makes Lumara’s medical-grade technology superior, particularly with the Illuminate LED panels and VISO mask?

Johnathan Beauchamp: What is unique about our illuminated panel is it can provide 5-minute treatments. For a portable panel, this is unheard of in the industry. Only the standing Light therapy systems can match this treatment time. However, these systems start at $10,000, whereas the Lumara illuminate panel is only $1,800.

We also brought truly uniform energy to the marketplace by including 5 to 10 times the amount of LEDS as our competitors. Our panels have an incredible 1800 LEDs. You can get truly uniform energy across every inch of your face. Other systems will offer a fraction of the LEDs, but you get this leopard effect or banding across the face, as seen in the photos below.

Joseph DeAcetis: You’ve mentioned that most competitors take significantly longer to deliver the same energy output. Why is the speed and energy delivery of Lumara devices important, and how does it benefit users compared to your competitors?

Johnathan Beauchamp: Our flagship device takes only five minutes to produce 5000 J light energy. This is the recommended clinical dose that the skin can absorb in a day. We designed our system around these cellular requirements.  Other systems are designed around features such as multiple colors. However, the trade-off is treatment time. Most other systems will take 30 to 60 minutes to reach the same energy output. Especially for professionals, setting aside an hour for each client for a red light treatment isn’t feasible. A fast five-minute treatment makes a difference and includes this therapy in a much more comprehensive range of treatments or packages.

Joseph DeAcetis: The market has become saturated with the rise of consumer interest in red light therapy. What gives Lumara a comparative advantage in both the professional and consumer marketplaces?

Johnathan Beauchamp: What is unique about Lumara is that we started in the professional space. We sold to med spas, dermatologists, and plastic surgeons for over nine years. So we have a very critical and highly educated clientele. Then we moved to the consumer red light mask space and took the same Industry-leading technology that made us so successful, and we packed it into our VISO Mask.

99% of the mask companies don’t operate like this. Therefore, their devices are not designed to meet clinical standards. They simply sell whatever device they can get for the best price and slap a brand name on it.

Joseph DeAcetis: The VISO mask, in particular, packs 470 LEDs compared to the industry norm of 60-100 LEDs. How does this significantly higher number of LEDs impact the results that consumers can expect?

Johnathan Beauchamp: This is a great question. We would love to use the sunscreen example. Imagine putting sunscreen on with a Q-tip and “dotting it” across your skin–versus using a spray on sunscreen. What do you think will give you better protection from the sun? The Lumara VISO Operates the same way. The sheer number of LEDs ensures that every square millimeter of your skin is thoroughly treated to the medical standard. This means you can get results that you would expect from going to a med spa, dermatologist, or esthetician using their professional light system.

Joseph DeAcetis: Can you explain how using the VISO or Illuminate panels can visibly improve skin health for readers unfamiliar with red light therapy? Are the results long-lasting?

Johnathan Beauchamp: Just as plants use light to grow and thrive with photosynthesis, our cells use red light to Generate cellular ATP, which is cellular energy. It’s like giving your cells an energy drink full of all-natural vitamins. You will perform better. This means your cells are healthier, your immune system will fight off acne-forming bacteria better, and it will promote collagen and elastic fiber growth, which helps your skin look smoother, tighter, and younger.

Joseph DeAcetis: As the wellness industry grows, there are concerns about market saturation and misinformation. What are Lumara Systems’ biggest challenges, and how do you intend to overcome them?

Johnathan Beauchamp: Our biggest challenge is helping educate the consumer market as to why LED spacing is so important. Designing a fully custom mask that is a clinical grade with five times the LEDs as our competitors is costly. We don’t do it just to be different. We do it because it’s required. We do it because it matters. This is why most people don’t see results with their masks. It’s not because red light therapy doesn’t work. It’s because the mask they bought doesn’t work.

Joseph DeAcetis: With Lumara’s focus on high-powered, efficient light therapy, are there any risks or contraindications that users should be aware of when using these devices?

Johnathan Beauchamp: Luckily, red light therapy is one of the safest modalities on the planet-Unlike regular sunlight, which has ultraviolet and infrared rays that can harm your DNA and cause damage, the red 600-nanometer wavelength doesn’t damage any cells and is simply a healing wavelength that your cells use to create energy. Now, if you are taking certain medications that make your skin more sensitive to light, such as Accutane or chemical peels, you should check with your doctor and perhaps reduce the frequency of treatments.

Joseph DeAcetis: Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to both consumers and professionals. How does Lumara Systems approach sustainability regarding your devices’ production, design, or usage?

Johnathan Beauchamp: At Lumara, we focus on designing systems that are made to last. Our Lumara panel has a three-year warranty, and whenever we get old panels, we recycle them and use every piece we can. We will even go out of our way to help other companies that don’t have repair services available locally. We repair a decent number of our competitors’ systems.

Joseph DeAcetis: As you continue to innovate in the LED light therapy market, what can we expect From Lumara regarding future product development, especially in reaching new market segments like Gen Z?Johnathan Beauchamp: At Lumara, we aim to make the best light therapy systems money can buy. As we grow, we will continue to develop better panels, masks, and other devices for all industries—professional, personal, or private. With every year that passes, we strive to not only innovate but also educate the next generation so they know why they deserve the best and why they deserve Lumara.

Red light therapy has become a hot topic in health and wellness circles, hailed for its ability to promote healing, rejuvenation, and overall well-being. But what exactly is red light therapy, and why is it gaining so much attention? In this article, we’ll dive into the science behind it, the history of its development, and its remarkable growth as a consumer product. We’ll also explore the many benefits of red light therapy and introduce one of the leading companies in the field, Lumara Systems, known for bringing medical-grade technology into the homes of everyday consumers.

Red light therapy, also known as low-level light therapy (LLLT), uses specific wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular repair. Originally developed by NASA in the 1990s to help astronauts heal wounds and maintain muscle mass in space, red light therapy has since become widely accessible to the general public. The first consumer red light therapy devices became available in the early 2000s, and the industry has since grown exponentially. Today, red light therapy products generate billions of dollars annually, with the global market projected to exceed $1 billion by 2026 due to increased demand for effective, non-invasive health and skincare treatments.

Challenges in the Market
Despite its success, Lumara faces challenges common in the light therapy industry, particularly educating consumers on the difference between underpowered, ineffective products and those that truly deliver results. In a market flooded with low-quality devices, Lumara has worked tirelessly to maintain its reputation as a trusted, high-performance brand. Convincing consumers to invest in quality rather than being swayed by cheap alternatives is a constant hurdle, but one that Lumara overcomes through clear, scientifically-backed messaging.

Conclusion
Lumara Systems has positioned itself as a trailblazer in the red light therapy industry by focusing on innovation, power, and results. Whether you’re seeking professional-grade skincare at home or looking for the latest advancement in wellness technology, Lumara offers a solution that’s rooted in science and designed for real-world use. With its commitment to quality and performance, Lumara continues to redefine what’s possible in the world of light therapy.

Viso masks make for a thoughtful and impactful gift that will bring health benefits long after the season ends.
